New Shimano wheels - what do you think?

There a decent set of wheels, especially for the price. The RS-80's are £100 more (on Merlin at least) and only save ~100g, I personally don't think that weight saving warrants the extra cash, especially as it is only the rim that is different between the two sets.

I would keep an eye on the bearings, both hubs use traditional cup and cone type bearings and the seals don't appear to be particularly brilliant. My Brother-in-law has got a pair of the 6600 wheels, which he has had for just over 2 years, and the rear hub allowed water to get in which ruined the bearings, but just keeping and eye on it and maintaining them should prevent that.

I've just received the very same pair from Merlin - seem like an absolute bargain to me. They seem a great improvement over the R500's my bike came with in terms of weight and ride feel (don't think I'm experiencing new gear placebo effect!). As mentioned, the cup and cones will probably just need a bit of tlc. Put my rear slightly out of whack being forced through a pothole by a car on the way home last night so need to true it, but they were perfectly true as received.

I've got RS80s and they have been a big improvement on the basic Shimano jobs provided with my Focus Cayo. Can really feel that they're stiffer. Forgotten what the difference between RS80s and Ultegras are... RS80s have a carbon laminate on them...
