Hi all,

I am planning to purchase a Boardman 2009 Team alloy road bike (2nd hand). used over 1000 miles for events & practice.

Bikes been used by another tirathlete who's upgrading his bike.

Tyres are Continental Race (hardly used)
Cosmetic scratches but NO rust.
Bike is equipped with SRAM Rival 20 Speed & Carbon Brake Shifters.
Ritchey Pro Aero wheels,
Ritchey Bars and Stem
and a Ritchey Seat Post.
Shimano SPD Pedals

Would £400 be overpriced?
Would like to hear from you experienced riders.

Thanks!

Sounds like the 2010 version. Tyres are crap and will need replacing. The brakes and shifters are not carbon, just carbon effect. Check the drive gear carefully for wear. If all is well then £400 is good.
Very good bikes, I have two

have a look on ebay for completed listings. This'll give you a guide. 400 sounds about right for a tidy example. Take a chain checker to assess drivetrain wear. If you need to replace the cassette+chain+rings then that's another £100.

The brake levers on Rivals are carbon, but they are not cosmetic carbon. Look at them in the sunlight with polaroid glasses on and you will see the strands of carbon.

The 2009 had Ultergra, the 2010 had Rivals.

You should be able to see any wear on the front rings (do the teeth look like they have symmetrical semi circles between them or are the spaces between worn like offset?). At that mileage, it shouldn't have any.

I would allow for a chain and cassette anyway. £55.

If it rides nice, £400 is a good price, possible haggle to £375 if there is obvious wear on the cassette.

    Thanks for all the input!

I do not have a chain checker.
How can I check for wear on the front rings?
Do you have some link to some pictures to compare?
Yeah....I am guessing the chain and cassettet might need replacement as they have not been changed before since purchase....
What are good brands & where to purchse them/
    Thanks again!

Purchase on line. The Boardman has a Shimano 105 cassette as standard. I changed mine to a SRAM PG1070 but a 1050 will be fine and is cheaper.

Chains - either SRAM or KMC.

    Thanks for the recommendation....

I have never changed a cassette / chain on a bike before.

Does bikeradar have some tips/directions on how to change them?

also, would scratches on the sruface of carbon forks be of any issue?

i heard that carbon fibre are only useless once the damage has reached the threads/fibre in the structure....is this correct?
