My riding buddy informed me today that he is child free one weekend next month and wants to get a full weekends riding in but can't decide where to go. We've narrowed it down too Glenntress, Afan, Coed-y-Brenin or Whinlatter but seriously which is the better for the weekend? We'll be taking the tents up so local campsite will be a must and somekind of nightlife would be a bonus for the saturday so basically looking for a few sugestions on where would be best as it looks like this will be the only chance my mates has of getting out until after christmas.
What if your dreams and fears existed in the same place? What if to get to heaven, you had to brave hell? What if everything you've ever wanted cost you everything you've ever achieved? Would you still go there?

Go to Whinlatter, plan a natural ride or two as well. Might as well be riding as stuck in the car for four hours each way to Afan etc.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

All depends on you ability/fitness and map reading skills.
Keswick is a good stop over for Whinlatter and a couple of proper rides such as the Borrowdale Bash. Maps are available from Keswick Mountain Bikes for a couple of pounds. Give em or Cyclewise a call beforehand and get them posted to you.

Personally prefer Lakes riding to GT/Inners

Haven't ridden Afan but out of Glentress, Whinlatter and C Y B it would be Glentress without any doubt for me! You also have my fav ever trail 'Innerleithen' only 5 minutes drive away.

You could stay in Inneleithen, which is quiet but has a few pubs and decent eating places, or Peebles which is a bigger town.

Well it looks like it'll be a toss of the coin between Whinlatter and Glentress, i've read loads of good things about both places and i'm leaning more towards Glentress as it supossedly has a half decent nightlife to go with 10/10 riding. Cheers for your help :D

Whinlatter was a big disappointment for me all over in a rather dull couple of hours so I won't be returning in a hurry.Perhaps I,ve been spoiled by regular visits to GT,Inners,Kirroughtree,Dalbeattie Ae. Whinlatter is not even in the same league as GT. Plenty of campimg around GT and Peebles has lots of decent food and pubs etc. You can spend full day at GT and also nip over to Inners for a few hours plus local routes if you have the energy...
No contest in my book

Spoke to my mate and we're pretty much set on Glentress, we'll be heading up early on the friday morning and aiming to get in the area for around 8.30/9am so we can pitch tents etc and get a full days riding in. I've been reading reveiws and some make the place sound terrifiying especially the black run, now the Paralell Universe(black) and freeride section at Llandegla is the most technical run i've done so is the Glentress black a big step up or would i be ok??? I'd like to think i can hold my own but i'll admit i'd lose my @rse if i came across a 15ft drop off :? I've been told Spooky wood is a must section to ride.

Now time to find some campsites.........

For three days, Glentress has to be it. You have Glentress and Innerleithen so close toghether that they may as well be considered part of the same trail centre, and the blue is worth a good blast in Glentress too.
If you're more into your gravity, then there's the freeride area in Glentress, or the DH tracks in Innerleithen as well.

I was into gravity (i'm too lazy to climb) until i had a big fall on the free ride section at Llandegla about 3 months ago but still trying to find my mojo, oh and i ride a Meta 55 so going big can be a worry incase the frame explodes. I've seen a few videos of the free ride section and it does look a lot of fun i've gotta say and will look at doing some runs but may look at stealing my mates pressure suit (just incase my tallent gets the better of my ability)

DEFINITELY use a pressure suit for something like that. It just makes sense, basically.
If you fall off on the first day, you might get yourself a niggly little injury that will prevent you riding for the rest of the days - and that's just a pain in the arris when you've set three days aside to ride.
So if you're going big, armour up, I say.

Just remembered i've got £300 burning a hole in my pocket that the ex owed me, i feel a pressure suit and Go Pro head cam being purchased in haste
