2nd hand carbon, does it matter how old it is?

I got told on mountain bikes that you should replace carbon bars, stem and seatpost after 3 years use.
I am looking at getting a 2nd hand carbon stem and seat post for my new road bike and wondered if it matters on the age of it?

Provided it is undamaged then no, the age doesn't matter.
But ask yourself why the seller is selling the carbon parts. Big crash?Boardman Elite SLR 9.2S

I read you should replace bars stem and seatpost every 5 years anyway. Can't be too careful with steering stuff innit.Saracen Tenet 3 - 2015 - Dead - Replaced with a Hack Frame

Half the pro peloton are using aluminium stems. Same weight as carbon, more durable and 1/2 the cost.
I can just about see the point of carbon bars (I've got some 3T carbon bars on my 'best' bike) but I fail to see any advantage in carbon stems.
Stop mucking about and go and buy yourself a nice Ritchey WCS stem.0
