leeds to east coast?

ok, so me and a couple of chums want to ride from leeds area out to preferably somewhere like whitby/robin hoods bay in late august over a couple of days. Wondered if any body had any experience on part or similar or even better done the route? Any help or suggestions on where to stay, routes to take/not take would be greatly apreciated or even a kick in the right direction of where to start looking?!

I have never planned a route like this before (i know its no coast to coast but...) so all ideas and guidance would be ace and greatly appreciated!
