Saw the release information on the news section of BR a few days ago, and rather like the idea. Riding with a normal 53/39 can be extremely tiresome after a few KM out in the mountains.

Has anyone already splashed out on them, and can offer a review on them. Or are they even for sale yet?

SRAM Apex gives you up to an 11-32 cassette with it's med rear mech, this with a 50-34 compact gives you the same ratios Contador used to get up some of the worst hills in the Giro. David Millar had an XX rear mech to allow I presume the 12-36 cassette.

Looks like someday forgot to tell Millar, Contador etc. this last Giro...

I am by far no professional, but riding in the alps with a 39 and short range casette takes its toll after only a few KM of proper mountain climbing. Multiply that by 10, and you soon see why a decent range is needed. I'm not about to walk up 30 something kms of mountain roads!
