Hi Folks. Funny one here. My helmet straps have been sweated on so much that they're getting discoloured; Do we think that soap & water is the best thing for cleaning, or has someone discovered a wonder cure?

Cleaning them a pain tbh.
you got to remove them and and soap and water the only stuff you "allowed" to use otherwise your helmet will fail.....says the helmet company but im pretty sure a bit of miltons would be good enough .
biggest issue is once removed most of the straps have velcro which allways comes off and so means you need to buy some velcro stickers so that the straps go back.
Bassically it be a lot easier to buy new straps and just get rid the old ones and their stinking velcro attachments.London2Brighton Challange 100k!

My routine after a hard ride is to hang the helmet on the washing line to dry, once dry wipe straps with damp jay cloth, quick and simple.Road - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40044&t=12777154&p=16943702#p16943702

Just soak it in a sink with some weights to keep it submerged.
Or lick.I don't do smileys.
