Creaking/Clicking when pedalling.

I've been having some creaking and clicking noises coming from the crank when I pedal. It only seems to be occuring when I pedal on the right crank, when the bike is under stress from going up hills.
I've tightened the bolts on both cranks and the chainset, but it's still happening.

Any thoughts? I'm starting to worry its the BB but it hasnt done many miles at all and I know next to nothing about fixing mechanical problems myself.

Thanks

Next step would be the pedals. Remove, clean, re-grease and re-fit. See if that helps.

Have you got Look Keo pedals?

Used to get clicking on 105 pedals that had a plastic base plate in the pedal (that the cleat rests on), greasing it would help for a few miles but ultimately I swapped to Ultegra ones which have a metal plate - I think the newer 105 pedals have metal plates now anyway though.

I've had a look through the thread mentioned and had a check over a couple of the things that have been mentioned. I'm almost certain its not the bars/headset/stem or seatpost.
I'll try taking the pedals off and regreasing them and see if that helps. The pedals are Shimano MTB SPDs for those who mentioned pedals.

The noise doesn't "feel" to be coming from the pedals, although it's worth a shot as at the moment it could be anything.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I wouldn't assume anything. It's not a big deal to loosen off and retighten your seatpost, etc. I had an annoying creak last week that I thought was coming from the crank area, but I remembered the advice here and sure enough tighening up the seatpost cured it.

The noise still happens when climbing out of the saddle, forgot to mention this originally. I'll give everything a tighten though and see if the problem persists.

    Thanks

I had this same problem on my bike, i removed both crank arms and check BB cups to make sure they were tight, refixed crank arms little bit of greese and tighten up to the correct torque and did the same with the pedals, remove greese threads back on....been out for a ride and all is well again so worth a go :D

Same here, well I will be doing this at the weekend when I have some time, hopefully it will also have the desired effect. Seem to remember this helped the last time a certain creak disturbed my cycling pleasure.

Hi, been having exactly the same problem. Fixed it last night by loosening the left crank arm bolts & resetting the pre-load with the plastic screw in thingy & then re-tightening the crank arm bolts evenly to the correct torque. I think I'd overtightened the pre-load the last time it was apart & the bearings were running a bit tight. HTH & good luck. Ian.
