Summer Shower Shoe covers

I got caught out at the end of last summer on a long cycle that started on a very sunny day. Was about 3hrs in with still an hour to go and a very heavy shower came down on a stretch of road with nowhere to pull in and get cover. I had my rain jacket, which I always have just in case on a long spin, but the rain ran down my legs and absolutely soaked my shoes and socks. It cleared up again soon after but I was left with squelching feet and still a long way home, was very uncomfortable.
Anyway, the weather as it is, it's still no problem to wear shoe covers but in case we ever see warm sunny days, around these parts, again, I don't want to have to carry heavy overshoes all the time just in case of the odd shower.
Anyone recommend a v light set of covers, that can fit a back pocket, without taking up too much space and could be used just in an emergency to keep the feet dry during a wet patch on an otherwise summers day.

Mavic pro rain/h20
Endura Slick
Gore Oxygen, although not waterproof will keep the rain out
A pair of oversocks: defeet slipstream etc. These soak up the water, and keep most out of your shoes. They also look sexy.0 -
Just accept that you're going to get wet feet and get some Prendas oversocks to keep your shoes clean.More problems but still living....0

Not sure that much will help if it's running down your legs, unless the bulk of that is coming from front wheel road spray and you fit a front guard...
My shoes are heavily vented (mesh top), and my feet run fairly cool when cycling, so I often just leave a pair of Pearl Izumi toe covers on the shoes, sometimes only removing them if it's pushing towards 20 degrees. I've got both "Calien Toes" and "Cyclone" toe covers - Pearl Izumi seem to have renamed the (bizzarely named) Caliens to "Elite Thermal Toe Covers" now - these are a better fit than the Cyclones, and take up little space should you want to pocket them if it hots up.

They both only cover the front (mesh) half of the shoe, but they're OK for keeping out the worst of showers. Had a 3hr+ ride a few weeks back where it periodically heavily p!ssed it down, and my feet seemed to stay dry.
But this was with Crud Roadracers mudguards on too (which I also leave on most of the year), which are pretty effective at keeping the front wheel spray from soaking the feet. The Cruds plus toe covers did the job. But no protection against the water running down your legs that's not from road spray (how much of that is there?).0 -
I'd really just live with it. It's only water.0
