I don't do that (except when coming back from the pub of course).

No I really don't drink and drive because it is dangerous and there is a specific offence aginst it.

Does anyone know if there is a specific offence of cycling whilst rat ars*d - clearly it is not something I'd like to experiment with unless I knew the facts. Which is why I'm asking here!

After crashing into a lamp post a couple of years back and nearly breaking my arm I wouldn't advise it, whichever way the law goes.

The Group name Hombres came about because the first time ever 4 of us rode a proper mountain bike ride we seemed to sober up from the night before half way arount nant yr arian. We have also had spectacular drinking sessions til 4/5 in the morning and started riding at half 9 (that was the Marin). Its amazing what it does for your confidence

Try searching on the commuting forum - seem to remember they've done it to death over there, in practice as well as just debating it...

Why does there need to be a law against something stupid to stop you doing it?

My ex drink drives cars all the time. He says everyone does it in the country. Stupid foolish me got in the car with him after he had 4 pints last week....but in my defence I was lost in the middle of nowhere, and drunk myself, I didn't have much choice although I did lecture him about it......like I have numerous times.

I can't ride a bike sober....but I have never tried it drunk, is it one of those things where, like pool, you get better when you've had a couple?

waylander is right there, you can be done for drunk in charge of a bicycle and be fined
Cycling when under influence of drink or drugs.E+W+S.(1)A person who, when riding a cycle on a road or other public place, is unfit to ride through drink or drugs (that is to say, is under the influence of drink or a drug to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the cycle) is guilty of an offence..
(2)In Scotland a constable may arrest without warrant a person committing an offence under this section.

    http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/contents

but in scotland you can be arrested for it!

    EDIT: More Notes

    (i) The evidence of the extent to which a person is affected must be measured by means other than the provision of a specimen of breath, blood or urine, as there is no power to require such a specimen in these circumstances. However, if such a specimen was offered, it is probable that the evidence obtained by analysis of the specimen would be admissible.
(ii) In Scotland a constable may arrest without warrant a person committing an offence.
(iii) In England and Wales a constable may only arrest without warrant in accordance with the powers of arrest set out in section 24 of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984. In such an instance, that power might be exercised where a satisfactory address has not been furnished, or the constable has reasonable grounds for believing that arrest is necessary to prevent such a person causing physical injury to himself or any other person (see also other conditions in s24 of PACE).
(iv) The absence of a specific power of arrest in England and Wales affects the ability of the police to present any form of medical evidence of the accused's condition.
    (v) There is no offence of 'being in charge' of a cycle under the Road Traffic Acts, but such conduct may well be an offence of drunk in charge of a carriage under section 12 of the Licensing Act 1872. A bicycle or tricycle is a carriage for the purpose of that section.

They make the rules up as they go though, I once got done for Drunk and disorderly and drunk and incapable (2 cautions) how I can be disorderly when I'm incapable god knows, because surely then I'm incapable of being disorderly, so therefore i must have been orderly and capable of being orderly so no charges should have been brought.

    Its the old double negative

Interesting that there is idscrimination in Scotchland to the extent that the police don't need a warrent to arrest you whereas in England you need to have an unsaisfactory address. Well I've got an unsatisfactory address because the wife does not tidy it up properly so maybe she can go and live in Scotchland!

I was woken up by 2 couples return home from the pub. I was laid at the side of the road sort of hugging my bike. They thought I'd been knocked down. In reality, I'd probably just fallen over and after struggling to get up, gave it up as a bad job and went to sleep.

I no longer drink and ride.

You can be prosecuted for being a danger to other people, no matter what you are doing.

Drunk in charge of a carriage is one of the charges you can fall foul of.

I once rode home in a pathetic state, at times falling over more often that I was upright. I eventually gave up and settled down for a night on the kerb. I awoke to the sounds of birds only to disover I was less than 10 metres from my house. :?
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

I got breathalysed on the way home tonight. Police are doing random stops for the "summer", they said.
He looked concerned when he asked my age and I replied I wasn't sure anymore

Anyway, as bad as Daz555's sleep was, a few feet from his house, I was woken up right in the middle of the main road once. It seems I'd decided to have a bit of a sleep on the white lines in the middle
