Boardman team carbon crank bearing
Picked up a new boardman team carbon, first 3 miles i was really pleased. The it developed a clicking in the pedal / chainset area?
I thought it was the front deralieur?
This got worse over the next mile so i stopped riding, upon returning the bike which was now 4 days old and only 4 miles on it, i was informed it sounded like the crank bearings?
Is this a common fault with the boardman, should i be worried?
More importantly how on earth can the bearings have gone in such a short space of time?
Halfords have booked the boardman in for repair, which will take a week!
They will have the bike longwer than i did??

Never heard of this before but anything can happen on any bike. I've played with maybe 10 Team Pros and never had any issues other than a few minor adjustments post new cable bedding in period.
It isn't Boardman's fault, it isn't Halford's fault - if it is crank bearings then its just (unfortunately) one of those things.
I think its an FSA Mega Exo crank (could well be wrong though!) so it will be an FSA b/b (or 3rd party provider b/b) that's given up the ghost.
It will all be done free of charge anyway, so - unfortunately - it just means few extra days off the bike.
Nothing to worry about in the future anyway.0 -
if it's a 2011 model it is a BB30. it might be some time waiting for the bike, the store is unlikely to have the tools needed to remove and replace the bearing. would like to be proved wrong though - my store doesn't have the tools yet.0

Let me know how you get on with halfords... this is my BB30 on a Boardman Team Pro hardtail after 28 days and around 80km.

Removed crankset, cleaned and refitted which seemed to fix it, but I haven't had chance to get pressure on the pedals yet.
The bearing preload adjuster and the actual cranks weren't torqued correctly out of the box either.0 -
Thanks for the replies, I appreciate this is a mechanical isue, not necessarily the fault of any individual.
Will keep you up to date on the progress of the repair......0 -

In my experience about 10% of the 2011 model of BB30 Boardmans seem to have issues with the factory fittings of the bearings, I have 2 colleagues with them that have been perfect for over a year and my BB30 Carrera has been fine since April.
Caught early I've had success with removing the chainset, regreasing abnd refitting, but others have just been easier to bin the bearings and stick new ones in.
As of yet I have only seen one 2014/2015 PF30 bearing develop a clicking, but it only came in this afternoon and I'll have a look next week.0
