Anyone else have it as their home broadband? Mine has been super slow ever since I got home from Cornwall on Saturday :( I have tried rebooting it and I'm still only getting about 20kbps up and down!!! It's definitely not my laptop because it works fine on my mobile dongle and on the work network hmmm.

Really don't want to call India

Service providers tend to throttle back bandwidth when a user is viewing an unhealthy amount of gratuitous porn. Wow! 20kps that's some going.

Actually I haven't been watching porn, or downloading much of anything lately so I have no idea why!!!
It's so slow it's pretty unusable tbh, I have been using my dongle, but I can't use that all day every day because it will end up costing me a fortune!

    I don't know your area,

It's a chance it's not your provider but your line, for my home certainly we are as far fromt he exchange as you can pretty much be, so our sigal to noise ratio is really bad. If you have this problem only decent hardware can save you.

I'm close to the exchange! And it just started a few days ago. I pay Orange for the line rental too not BT so whatever it is, it's their problem, and with Orange you need to use the router they provide to get the free phone line etc. Looks like I am calling India later!!!

I've had this problem for ages with my plus.net account, time after time they just said it was the exchange and nothing to do with them.. after about 3 months, they finally upgraded me for free up to thier top notch account, I still get the same speed (1.5mb), but now my traffic is prioritised, which if anything is better as any skype or online ps3 gaming works with no issues.

this is a good site to check your speed and keep a record of it for your ISP

If they keep messing you about, I guess you could consider getting shot of your land line and just get a high monthly mobile broadband data rate.

Mobile broadband can be slow, although having said that I'm getting 1.16Mbps on that, and only 17Kbps on my home line, its slower than the internet was when I was a kid!!! Not right!

On speedtest.net I'm currently getting 4.73Mbps on mobile broadband, my brother who lives in the same area is lucky to get 1Mbps on BT broadband. For some people in the wrong area broadband is an overpriced waste of time. What pisses him off is the fact he's paying the same as some getting 10+Mbps

What data rate had you been getting, before the 17Kps  fiasco?

I don't remember exactly but it was pretty decent, I think it was about 7Mbps, I never really had cause for complaint!!! And getting free calls to US mobiles was essential for me with my boyfriend and I at the time constantly being between the UK and US. So it used to be great.....USED to be!

That sound's pretty good, I doubt your current poor service will last.
