    True.

And the same people who raise holy hell about naked bike rides probably don't bat an eyelid at bombing the shit out of Afghan neighbourhoods.

    It's a funny old world.

But what's the point of it? Is it for charity? If so, by all means do it, otherwise I really just don't see the point of it.
Out with the old, in with the new here.

I saw the naked bike ride in London last year...it was a disgrace the amount of men and ugly women in it distracting from what could have been a good perv :(

Yes because people who don't agree with parading naked in a city centre are all war mongers - it's a well known fact.

You know exactly what I'm getting at Tom Butcher. And I also included the word "probably".

So don't be so fuck1ng obtuse; it's embarrassing.

I don't know what you are getting at - where does bombing people in Afghanistan come into the argument about naked bike rides ?

Oh right, I though it was all a clever act on your part.

My point is that in the grand scheme of things; a few naked folk on bicycles isn't really gonna cause any problems (anybody who does have a problem with seeing folk naked really needs to deal with their own issues first) and there are much bigger things to worry about at the moment.

    1. War
    2. Climate Change
    3. Recession
    4...

I could go on. But most people never offer an opinion on these matters or even seem to be interested/concerned by them.

Fair enough - I read your initial post as implying opposing naked cycling somehow makes you more likely to the be the kind of person who thinks it's OK to bomb Afghanistan. That there's some kind of conservative type who is offended by naked flesh but not flesh being blown to pieces whereas those broadminded individuals who will be riding naked have their priorities rather more in order.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

No, I didn't mean that at all. BUT, I understand why you may have thought that was my point.

    No worries.

(as an aside; they probably do have their priorities rather more in order, but that's another thread)

    That's a fair question.
A peaceful, imaginative and fun protest against oil dependency and car culture. A celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body. A symbol of the vulnerability of the cyclist in traffic. The world's biggest naked protest: 50+ cities and thousands of riders participate worldwide, including around 3,000 in the UK in 2010.
From the people who brought you Critical Mass, it appears.

    That'll teach those pesky motorists!

Ben does indeed highlight the bizarre difference in attitudes towards sex and violence in the UK.

In light of the weird sex censorship to keep rubbish parents happy.

I know which I'd rather want.

Nakedness is way more of an issue here than it should be. We're all naked under our clothes. Get over it.

Reminds me of a guy I heard complaining about the movie Kick-Ass, he was really uptight and having a rant about the scene at the start where the character is talking about whacking off loads and dropping tissues in the bin. He said it was disgusting and unnecessary and wish he knew about it before he started watching the film with his kids, one of them an under 10, in the room...bizarrely completely unconcerned about all the violence in the film. When this was pointed out to him he genuinely couldn't comprehend what were we pointing out to him.

where do I sign the petition? A bunch of attention seeking blerts. We live in a society where we wear clothes - get over it. Why would we want to spoil the thrill of seeing a partner naked for the first time? I like my presents wrapped. I also don't want my daughter traumatised by some man showing the world his hairy old tadger in the mistaken belief he's 'changing the world - man'. Go on a real protest for a recognisable cause goddamit!!!

Doesn't say anywhere how we join in does it?

I'll make sure I give it a good rub in the factor 50 first. What is the point that skin protection ceases and public masturbation starts?

One of the downsides of public media access is that there is no filter - In the fifties, when 'Angry of Surbiton' would write to the newspaper complaining about this or that, the editor would take the more lunatic fringe and decline to publish it.

In these days of public access the ability to work a keyboard or a phone handset is apparently sufficient qualification for mainstream media to publish your point of view.

I really do hope that the sort of smallminded, vicious little people who worked themselves up to such a froth in the comments to the article stub their toes on the church steps next Sunday.

I love living in Austria. Theres no censorship.

What I don't understand in the UK is that so many parents let their kids run around the neighborhood or in the streets naked when their young, but the minute their kids are older and show a little skin, they are suddenly a whore or such.

Here in Austria, women don't have to wear tops at pools and lakes, and nudity is not a problem, and kids arn't traumatised. UK is following America in censorship of everything except violence.

Funny that this all comes from a nation where the best read 'newspaper' has a topless woman in it every day on page 3.
