20 spd vs 18 spd

With a 10 speed reach cassette do you generally (i.e in normal off the shelf bike spec) get an extra higher or lower gear or is the extra cog in the form of one less 2 tooth jump at the lower end of the gear range?

More often than not the extra cog is mid-range so giving you less of a jump.
Just look at the standard supplied with most bikes of both 18 and 20 gears and it is usually the same top and bottom gears.0
