Scary! No brakes either.
Doesn't someone do a more conventional looking bamboo frame? Sure I've seen one!
Happy with the Fuel for now, particularly as it's under 20lbs, been trying that for years :-)0 -
under 20? on whos scales?
also, im suprised to see that bike has a drivetrain, i thought they were powerred by smug0 -
On mine. here
I'm confident in them, sure others will question it though. Still, I'm happy with it! Makes it 3lbs lighter than the XTR/X.0 S-Works Carbon hardtail I had 5 years ago, shows how things have come on!
Surprised the bamboo bike isn't belt drive to make it uber uber niche!0 -
Those scales are wrong. It's probably closer to 26lbs in reality.0

Bamboo is actually a fantastic building material, provided you can join it effectively. It's basically nature's version of carbon fibre tubing, except stronger!0

That's like my knob that is.
C'mon Big D you're slipping.0 -

Haha!
I wonder what the Calfee frames weigh, doesn't actually say, so probably a lot!0 -
Just hope all the bamboo used in your bike has been toroughly checked for slipts of any kind
Still love the idea of having one of these on my wall the idea of riding it still freaks me a little lol0 -
If I had one, I'd paint it, as great as the concept of a bamboo frame is, the natural colour of bamboo puts me off a little, especially the bonding on the joins.0
-
I imagine they're actually really tough, they do seem to say that if you want a stiffer back end (matron) you can have carbon stays, so I guess it's pretty flexy.0

Would have to laquer it as well to stop splinters... :shock:0 -
There immensly strong,
But as above the only down side is splinters, and it can split in fabrications. but otherwise yes well strong, my mate pointed them out to me last year and read as much asi could find as i thought thats cool lol0 -
So like carbon then really I guess!0
-
yeh not totally unlike it lol, i never found out about lifespan though, rot and decay kinda stuff.0
-
Doesn't it exist naturally for very long periods of time? Wouldn't have thought it'd be a huge issue, assume it's treated somehow. The lifespan of a bike is pretty tiny compared to most natural things after all!0
-
i think my main concern on this would be the joints, and something like this happening

Fixie smug.
No good for commuting though, especially if it comes up against one of these, its natural predator
And see the ease that tackles a mountain with, there would be no place to hide!0 -
The head tube has come away from the main traingle at the joins Yee, If you look at the bottom you can see some white foxe's turned allows you to make sense of hte pic mate.0

Ah, I get it now. I thoguht he was just holding two bits of spaceframe tubing nexto to a bike!0
-
sorry thought it seemed obviuos from the photo, should have explained it a bit.
it happened when Dirt test rode some new space frame last year!0 -
