RockShox Dart2 Suspension - leaking...

Hey Guys, I wonder if you could help me.
I have a giant Yukon Fx2, which comes with RockShox Dart 2 front suspension. The bike is two years old, and has only been used twice. (I was too lazy to start riding again) But now i'm back into it, i've used the bike twice, riding the Twrch trail at Cwmcarn, and after a ride yesterday, I noticed some leaking oil from the bottom of the suspension. It appears to be on the leg with the rebound adjustment.

I'm not fully up to speed on the build of the suspension, so I hope you guys can help.

From the picture, it appears that it may be a case that the bolt isn't tightened up enough, as you can see the rubber washer. I only noticed the leak after yesterdays ride. Do you think that this may be the case? I would say it probably leaked about a tablespoon worth

Can anyone shed any light on this? Am I best in taking this to a local bikeshop to take a look? I don't want to cause any damage, and I'm assuming that I have top up the oil from the suspension.

Am i ok to ride the bike in the mean time? I dont want to do any damage but I've only just got back into biking, and i'm really enjoying it, and want to get out as much as i can.

Thanks Tom

I have posted before about RX leaking and most folk dont listen

I have no idea but check you tube for a tutorial on pouring pints of oil into a bin

is a start, good luck - you will need it from my past experience with them

Get some 15w suspension oil (motorbike shop) remove the nut and poor "about a tablespoon" back in. And re tighten the bolt. There should be about 10-15ml of oil in the lowers from memory, so that sounds like the lot has come out.

Its possible that the legs where not properly pulled up when built and have dropped a mm or 2 after a few bumps, resulting in the lowers no longer being tight.

You can download the service manual from sram which will show how they work.
  • on almost every rockshox fork i've had, there has been a small leak from the leg and i've had to tighten it up.

Worst was my rev race, had to top that up from new as all the oil was in the box

It may just need a new crush washer but don't be surprised if it turns out to be a blown damper cartridge, it's a common problem with Darts.

Hi mate, thanks for your assistance on this, do you mean to undo the bolt where i suspect it leaking from, and top that up?

    Thanks

    correct.

you'll need an hex key and medicine syringe as well as the 15w suspension oil. If you don't have any 15w you could get away with 5-10w gear oil providing its synthetic.

This is the inside view. that bolt connects to the dampener rods

Awesome, thanks for that, I've picked up some 15w Juice Lubes fork oil from my lbs. Will have a look at it on the weekend if I get a chance. Thanks
