Hello guys...

I got my cube acid on Wednesday :D really happy with it.
today i was just heading off from home for a spin, then about 300m up the street from my house, going really easy, the chain went really tight, so I stopped and saw this:

The chain has come undone, and one side of a link has dug into the rear mech and bit a few chunks out of it, dunno if its bent or anything..? God knows what would have happened if I was pedalling harder.. :?
Have emailed pictures to the bike shop, generally, would the chain and rear mech be replaced under warrranty/guarantee.??

Really gutted coz I think the bike is ace, any comments/advice welcome.... :)

Thanks alot

Looks like the failure is at the joining pin, it's not unknown for Shimano chains to do that

Chains technically come under wear & tear items on warranties

But a good shop should replace it free as a gesture of good will

Which gear were you in when it happened?

Were you shifting gears under load (as in not easing up on the pedalling whilst shifting)?

Couple of days old I'd say it was a faulty chain. Would expect them to do something.

It's damaged the rear mech too....
Should they replace this too, because the damage was caused by the possibly faulty chain...?

Rear mech is just cosmetic damage

Which will happen on a mountain bike anyway

So they probably won't do anything about the rear mech if it still works properly

You could ask them nicely if they could do anything for you, but I would suspect they have no obligation to under the warranty

It may well be. However, the warranty is irrelevant when it comes to rights defined in statute. In other words and in the tradition of bike radar, ITS THE LAW, note my use of capitals as is the tradition on bike radar, when discussing consumer law. :D

In all seriousness any fault what so ever which develops in anything so soon after purchase would be deemed faulty at sale, unless proved otherwise.

I wouldn't bin the old one, just change the two links either side with the spare that will likely be left over from the new chain after you have correctly sized and fitted it.
