Im thinking of Getting a GoPro HD Helmet Hero, does anyone own one and have any advice they can give me. How good are the mounting options for a MTB?

I bought a GoPro HD Hero 960 at the beginning of the year to take snowboarding, I went for the helmet mount variety and it also comes with a chest strap. Unfortunately they only give you one curved adhesive mount (for helmets) so I bought some more for my MTB helmet. Took it up cannock a few weeks ago and it was awesome shake free footage. Judging by some frame mount videos I have seen on youtube the helmet mount is the way to go as you body acts as a shock absorber for the footage :)

My battery lasts around the 4 hour mark and a bought a couple of 16gb sd cards which should be impossible to fill on one charge. If you plan filming for longer in one journey then recommend getting an extra battery at least.

Keh, adhesive mounts for your MTB helmet? Wouldnt advise that, what you can get is a proper helmet strap about £12 I think when I bought mine.

I have the handlebar mount too which you can use as a seatpost mount as well so you can get some shots from down low looking behind or between your legs, but due to most MTB's having larger tubes etc you can get the roll bar mount which would fit around most downtubes etc on a bike where the handlebar mount wont, I need to order one myself to get some funky angles.

The chest strap looks ok, but seems extremely juddery when on a MTB but does give a better perspective of speed compared to the helmet mount, but with the helmet mount you can see more of the trail.

Cheers for the info chaps. Think ill get the GoPro over the Drift HD as I like the idea of flying round trails with a miniature toaster strapped to my head

I got one of these for Snowboarding as well, great little cameras.

Make sure you get a fast memory card though.

Can fully recommend 7dayshops class 10 32GB card. Bargin at £27. Don't appear to be in stock at the moment, but worth keeping an eye out.

Yeh I got a PNY Class 10 16GB from play.com was a bargain at £17.99 - not sure what the going rate is now (that was back in february).

If you have a card reader on your PC / Laptop take the card out and transfer the video direct from the card as its much quicker than using the USB cable.

Also don't forget to change the "flip" mode if you use the camera mounted upside down, will save you a whole world of pain trying to flip the video after its been recorded.

You dont need a fast memory card, when I went to Wales the card I did have went pear shaped so had to buy another.

There isnt many hi tech shops around Betwys Y Coed so got stuck with a 4GB class 2 from the local newsagents.

It worked a treat even on the 960 setting, the only downside is its a bit slow downloading it to your laptop ;)
  • Anyone spotted any deals on the 960?

Anyone spotted any deals on the 960?

    Bought mine from -

    http://www.jensonusa.com/store/product/ ... spx?cc=GBP

    £109 for the camera
    £15 postage
    £17 Tax

30% cheaper than purchasing it in the UK.

That is cheap, cheers. £17 total customs charges? How long was delivery?

Warranty would be the only thing to put me off. Ive read about plenty of possible probs & crashes.

edit - out of stock till 6th July

depends what mode you want to run it in, 1080p @ 30FPS and 720p @ 60fps both require 15Mb/s. So at least Class 6. And some of those Class 10 cards are a bargain and are rated high enough that you know they'll always be running at atleast 15Mb/s
