Just wanted to know if there was any changes i could make to my groupset to help improve climbing... or if i just need to ride up more hills to build up my legs..
I currently ride a Cinelli Dinamo with a campag veloce groupset, this is as standard with :
Compact 50/34T Chainset
12-25T Cassette
Is there anything i can change to which will help me cope with the steep yorkshire hills while i get up to speed?

Hi,
You're right in that if you ride more hills, you'll get better but you could also fit the Campag alpine cassette that has a 29 tooth sprocket on it.
Should get you up most things with your 34 on the front.
Have to check that your rear mech will be ok.0 -
yeah might need to change to long cage RD.
running triple on my tourer, 30 front, 26 rear and fine with all hills I've come across, as long as I'm not lugging a extra 15kg in shopping.Say... That's a nice bike..
Trax T700 with Lew Racing Pro VT-1 ;-)0 -
Campag do a max 29t rear sprocket. You will not need a long cage rear derailleur for this with your existing 50/34 chainset ... but you will ideally need a medium cage rear mech.
I can't understand why they put such big gears on bikes. I run a 28/34/42 triple chainset and 11-23 at the rear - Campag 10 speed and do so with a short cage rear mech.0 -
Thanks for the advice guys..
ive ordered up a campag alpine 29t from my local shop..
Hopefully this will make climbing more enjoyable and not like im pedaling through quicksand!0 -
I've got compact chainsets on both my road bikes but one has an 11:25 cassette and the other an 11:28 - with the latter it's a lot easier on steep climbs.0
