New Pro2 Evo Hubs

I have just bought and fitted a pair of wheels build around Hope Pro2 Evo hubs. However they don't spin well. If I turn the pedals one revolution and stop, the wheel spins for about 2 revolutions and stops. Is this normal???? Riding will be hard work if I have to constantly fight friction.

not normal. is your brakes rubbing? have you re adjusted the post mount bolt things that attach the calaper to the frame and fork? give that a try? were they used? mabye they need a spot of grease or a service? but 2 revs is far from normal!

Defo not the related to grease, I opened the hubs up to check. Defo not brakes, as my disc pads as so worn there is plenty of space in the caliper!
I shall give Hope a ring today and post their answer.
    Thanks.

It's usually disk pads dragging on the rotor. My wheels spin for ages and go extremely slow and then oscilate back and forth a bit as the valve finds bottom before finally stopping. If yours only go 2 revolutions, you have a serious problem.

take them out, hold the axle and then spin them, there's no chance of other interefence then. I aslo think it's related to brakes.

My guess is brakes too, very easy to adjust.

Loosen the mounts a little, squeeze your brake lever, then tighten the mounting bolts gently so that they don't move. Then release the lever and give them a spin.

Any prob's or worries about doing it, do a quick search on YouTube and there are a few vid's demo'ing how to do it.

Hold the axles in your hands and spin the wheel

Remove the calipers from the frame/forks, then put the wheels in the frame and spin them

Then tighten the QRs and spin them

Then put the brakes back on and spin the wheels.

    What happens each time?

  • Assuming your brakes are not an issue. To be 100% Remove pads

I have pro2 and they spin roughly the same or less as you said. You are talking about the REAR wheel not the front wheel. Hope big clicky freehub creates some resistance when you stop pedaling. This is why your wheel doesnt seem to spin for a long time.

As above remove wheel from bike. Hold axels end and spin wheel by hand. Should be smooth and free. If not then you have a problem. I thought the same I spun my new custom 355 wheel. I wont be buying Hope again. Freehub is chewed up and bearings are gone in less than 6 months.

I've got the same hubs, and the rear has a lot of drag. The front is fine.

Thanks everyone for all your help. I have done as Bails87 recommended and cleaned and lubed where possible. This has made a great improvement, I also found my freehub was not fitted correctly so that has been sorted too. I now get several revolutions and don't think it's going to get better than this, it seems the ratchet pawls increase friction significantly. I sort of wish my Bonty Rhythm Comps were still rideable...
In anycase off to the trails this weekend so we'll see how they work in earnest!

I was pretty disappointed with the amount of rolling resistance on Pro 2s - it's the price you pay for good bearing durability, better sealing = more drag. Ditto Chris King.

They get better, but never particularly impressive.
