Question about my fork

On my Rockrider 8.1 I have got a Rock Shox Recon 100mm hydraulic fork with lockout at the handlebar. With the fork locked, it still does travel down. Does a fork locked on should just be rigid? This is my first MTB with this option and I am wondering if there is something wrong with it. Also there is a dial on the other side to adjust the fork, I have read the instruction that came with the bike, but there is nothing about this dial, I don't want to start messing it up. So if anyone could let me know or even better if they have a Rockrider 8.1 maybe they have got more experience about it. Thanks

it will still have some travel. just make sure the cable is pulling the knob fully around.

The dial on the left is presumably preload to set sag.

So is it just a matter of trial and error setting the sag? I have got no instructions whatsoever, I just don't want to damage anything.

Set the sag to about 25% of travel when you are on the bike.
