Yellow Shimano Bleeding tool cup thingymajigg

When I got my bike I got a yellow cup thing and a thin plastic stick type thing for bleeding the brakes. I have shimano M575 disc brakes on my bike. Now I think they need a bleed as the lever is nearly coming back to the bar and has a spongey feel to it. Now I am quite happy with the principle of bleeding brakes as I do it on my motorbike and cars and I presume I can do a similar method as I use for the motorbike with the mountain bike, I am a bit curios of how to use this yellow cup and if it will make it easier to do. As I notice the master cylinder lid is at a funny angle on the handlebar.
