Bike choice

I am looking to get into Road Biking and I am SOOO confused as to what to buy for my first bike.
My budget is around £600 to £900
Some people tell me to go for a full on road race,
Some people tell me get a relaxed sportive, they are a bit more comfortable (which is appealing)
Some people tell me I must have a large or external bottom bracket...
Some people say dont get Sora shifters...
I really like the look of the Cannondale Synapse tiagra or will the Synapse Sora be a good starting point then upgrade components? BB etc
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks

Cannondale Synapse tiagra
Good choice, great bike. It has a slightly more relaxed riding position than a full on race bike and Tiagra is a decent entry level groupo. Sora is OK, I have it on my tourer. But Tiagra and above have better shifters and it's worth paying the difference.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

If you shop around and speak to some shops you may be able to pick up the Synapse 105 for under £900. There are always deals to be done0
