Hi All,

New to this sport having become the proud owner of a carrera vengeance ltd

So far enjoying the bike other than the awful saddle, which is a real killer.

What kind of saddle would you recommend to replace this with?

I have a budget of £30 and would rather go for comfort.

Thanks alot!

    Charge Spoon.
    Or whatever fits your bum.

In terms of material is gel the way to go or leather?

Doubt you'll get leather on your budget.
Depends on the gel. Saddle with gel inserts maybe, some fat gel filled sofa, no.
    Needs to fit you.
If you are new might just need time to toughen up your bum.
The more you ride the less it hurts.

I get on well with the Specialized BG saddles.

Everyone is different, that's the problem

    Charge Spoon.

    £25 seriously well spent.

You might find this article helpfull. It has a good method of measuring your sit bones.

remember evans price match, so make sure you research the saddles you think you like and take evidence of the best price so that they can match it.

If you don't get them to price match they can be quite expensive.

However, as has been said, buy quality shorts with a decent gel insert. Make sure your saddle is at the correct height, level under sag and far enough forward for you sit bone to line up with the sit supports. It doesn't matter how good a saddle is you will not get comfy if its incorrectly adjusted.

Winstanleys Cycles do Charge Spoon for £22.50 if you're after price matching.

I bought one the other week, much more comfortable than the stock Carrera saddle for my needs.

Padded shorts won't do much if the saddle is too narrow or wide though.
  • I had a £50 gel saddle (selle italia C2 genuine gel flow) which was great for the hardened bum. Now I have a £22 charge spoon :P - the extra £30 is definatly better spent elsewhere.

I've only ridden it once - just replaced my stolen bike, but the difference from the standard saddle is incredible. Bit bum numbing but I've had 3 months off the bike so got some toughing up to do

But if your new to cycling.....charge spoon might be on the bum numbing side. Best bet is go down the bike shop (evans) and sit on all their bikes till you find a saddle you like - note shape and material and get it/one like it

Just bought a Madison Flux saddle, which is similar to a Charge Spoon. Seems to be £18 well spent; though harder wearing expensive seats damage as easily as the cheaper ones. I damage my bike more by bike racks than riding.

As per Cooldad, generally the more you ride the less you notice the saddle / comfort.
