Best XC Racer for a grand?

after a debate among friends i was wondering what the Best Xc bike is (Hard tail) for under 1k?

Im looking for a nice light race bike (well… as near as I can get). I had to result to riding my Specialized Pitch (heavy as) around the Erlestoke Twelve at the weekend haha.

    Something by Cube or Focus I'd imagine. Or On One, if they do a Carbon Whippet for £1k.

    The Boardmans have gone a bit more 'trail' this year.

    On one whippet. I think you can get one for £999. But check the geometry to make sure that it 'feels' right for you as if the dimensions won't suit you then no matter how light and good the bike is, it won't be 'right' for you.

    If not then you may pick up a cracking light HT for £1000 second hand. Some bargains are there to be had.
    Constantly trying to upgrade my parts.It is a long road ahead as things are so expensive for little gain. n+1 is always the principle in my mind.

    Cheers guys... hadnt thought about na on one.... just taken a look, and will got and try one at the weekend (they look nice)
