Did it last year and this event is blessed with good weather usually. Great route but cannot make it this year as I am doing the le terrier on sunday. Good luck all who are doing it.

I see the course is changed slightly this year to miss out some bad surface. Woll rig is out but the back of the swire is in.

Yes, I'll be there. Need as many 100+ rides as I can get ahead of the Marmotte next month.

Yes I'm on this one. Hope the weather plays ball, the forecast looks to be OK up to now!

I will be driving up from Durham on Saturday morning so I hope those tractors stay off the A68...

    Looking forward to it! 8)

I'm also doing this on Saturday. This is my second attempt at a 100 miler after having to cut short on Drumlanrig due to a crash. Here's hoping I make it in one piece this time. 8)

What's the route like? Seems to be a lot of long not very steep climbs rather than short sharp ones.

Fantastic route with plenty of climbing but as you say the climbs are of a more gentle nature, they are not sharp/steep but rather of a more of a long gradual ascent but you'll feel it in the legs towards the end. The swire is quite a climb but it does it from the slighty easier side but its still a climb to get your teeth into.

Great scenery and quiet roads and some small glens(cleughs) that are as wild as any in the highlands but less busy.

Legs felt it! showed up my lack of miles and hills this year (have only done about half milage of last few years). Great course though , (and friendly people at the stops) long slow climbs for the first half, short sharp ups for the second. Will have to start thinking about a compact for events of more than 70/80 miles I think.
Most scenic was bit after Mountberger , nice windey road down with good surface.
How did the rest of yous do? :)

Good course and the wind wasn't as bad as I'd expected when I saw the weather forecast on Friday night. Arrived at the carpark and it looked like everyone had left. Only a few others getting ready to head out. Was cycling with my mate and sharing the work made a big difference especially as I'd been struggling with a viral infection and had a chesty cough last week. Didn't have much strength and had to dig very deep to hold on at points but we came home together in 5 hours exactly. Should probably have sat this one out as I had no strength at the top end and was in the red way faster than I normally am but it's miles in the bag ahead of the Marmotte and have a couple of days off the bike now.

I have had a hand in organising this event, and came up with the course. I would be interested to know from anyone who has done this years and previous events, which route did you prefer?

I was on the short route, and I think I prefer to stay off the A7 a little more, like previous years. That said, it's still a great route with amazing countryside. Just make sure you get the thermostat checked for next year, t'was a tad chilly.

Oh, and what happened to the cake stops? Bit of a token gesture this year.

Was a good day, i only did the 72 but it was my first sportive and its quite good fun. I was a little apprehensive the day before and never got enough miles in the weeks before but still did a not too bad 4.35. Hope its on next year and hope the route is the same as it will be nice to have a relative figure to aim for. Lots of chatty folk on the way round also made a difference. Ill try to not stop as much as i lost 15mins at water/food stops.

    Cheers folks

Looks like we were the quickest round taking out the 2 Cancallera times that I suspect were folk down for the 102 that opted for the 72 miler!

Hi Dave, I did last years event but could not make last week due to participating in another sportive but prefer last years route. However me and my mate cycled your sportive route today and sort of did both route options as prep for the marmotte.

After the Berry bush we went over Alemoor and Woll Rig but then came back to Ettrickbridge and then over the Swire as per this years route. It was a good day out and quite a challenge. Both routes are fantastic but the extended route we did today was an option for a really hard sportive - perhaps one of for the olympic year only?

We got the coldest wettest day for it though and quite windy as well

Thanks for the route info though as it made a good day out.
