Having had my Rockhopper a whille now..

I have decided I don't think the Brakes are up to scratch..

It has Avid Juicy 3's on it..

I would like to upgrade but can't afford the world.. (wedding soon... financially ouch!)

Would these below be an improvement?

or

Would it be an idea to replace the rotors, and pads on the juicy's? Would you see an improvement?

As my problem isn't the levers, or them becoming spongey.. it is the raw stopping power.. it seems to just slow to a stop rather than be sharp..

Any help?

Budget is £150ish? Or less if just pads and rotors...

Cheers,

Danny

They'll be a big impovement, a good upgrade for sure and SRAM support is top notch too.

I tried some superstar kevlar pads in mine and it did make a difference but on long descents I still found the Juicy 3s a bit lack luster.

I went to Elixir R and they are much better in my mind.

If you want to do it on the cheap then you can up the rotor size and change to some different pads, if you want to go for new brakes then the Elixirs are a good choice. They do need to be bedded in properly but you can do that with ease. I would buy them again if needed.

    Thanks for your replies!

Hmmm I like the sound of the Elixirs...

May have to look into them for pay day!

Will upgrade the pads until then... superstar kevlar pads best reccomendation?

I have got a couple of sets of Juicy 3's, they have plenty of stopping power but do require regular bleeding to keep them working well. You could go to a larger disc, I'm a bit tubby so I run a 203 front rotor on the front of my Trance with Juicy three's and get loads of power from one finger braking. Superstar pads are crap but at least they only last about 50 miles, I find Clarks pads much better. Are you sure your pads aren't just contaminated?
Have a look at Shimano SLX if you want a change, Elixirs aren't really any more powerful.

    Thanks for post mate..

    Been helpful..

I may stay with Juicy's for a bit as cash is short..

It is quite possible my pads are contaminated.. Will purchase some more tomorrow and fit..

To Bed them in.. 15/20 full speed and brake to a stop the usual?

Could you show me a link to the clark pads you use by any chance??

clean rotors when you change the pads, if one is contaminated then so is the other (probably)

use Isopropyl Alcohol 99% min or proprietary brake cleaner.

yep, but it's very, very expensive for what is basically IPA in a shiny bottle... check out Ebay for IPA... you can get it real cheap.
