Hello,

I am just getting back in street riding / commuting and picked a 2011 Scott Sub45 Solution mainly for the colour as I liked the blue and white lol.

I want to upgrade a couple of things just to bring the spec up and I realy hate the crank which doesnt seem to catch the chain on upshifts on occasions and I also want to change the front and rear mechs.

Current standard spec is:
CRANKSET SHIMANO FC-M171, 48 X 38 X 28 T
DERAILLEUR (FRONT) SHIMANO FD-M191 34.9MM CLAMP
DERAILLEUR (REAR) SHIMANO RD-M 360 ACERA, 24 SPEED

I would like to keep the gearing as near to spec as possible so have been looking at a-
Shimano Deore MTB Bike Crank Chainset 170 - 48/36/26t
Shimano Deore XT MTB Bike Front Mech Derailleur FDM770
Shimano XT SHADOW Mountain Bike Rear Mech RDM772SGS

Now one thing I dont know for sure is if they are compatable or if there will be any fitting issues. All the items above can be sourced from the net for quite good money.

I am open to other suggestions as I do have very limited knowledge when it comes this stuff :)

cheers in advance for any help :)

Why upgrade any of that until it is worn out, it not shifting properly is simply adjustment, and the difference between the mechs is a few grams, and not much else.

If you have to upgrade stuff, upgrade wheels and tyres, as this will actually make a noticeable difference to how the bike rides.

If you do feel the urge to do all these upgrades, you will need two bottom bracket tools, a chain tool, and you will need to get the bottom bracket faced by a bike shop for around £15, or everything fitted for a bit more.

the mechs I was going to change just of the fun of it but the crank really does bug me and it looks really cheap :( I dont think its an adjustment just the build quality.

nothing is a dead cert and this is one reasion why I posted :)

As for the other suggestions I am running-

They tyres are fine, but the wheels will be quite heavy, although there aren't many 700c disc wheelsets around.

The cranks do look pretty awful, but I wouldn't bother spending more than this considering the bike. http://www.jejamescycles.co.uk/shimano- ... 38513.html

thanks for the link, do you know were to look for different wheel options?

also one thing I have noticed is the travel between clicks on the freehub seem quite spaced apart so when you go to get back on the pedels from free wheeling there is nothing there until it catches lol.

can you get hubs with finer movment with less travel between clicks "if you get me lol"

You can get wheels with more engagement points on the freehub reducing free travel, but while it may bug it's really not an issue on a commuter!
