The road clothing market is nuts! When i fiind something i like its usually out of stock in my size or discontinued.

So, i was just after some advice on what to buy really. I only have shoes/helmet/gloves at the min (using gym kit for cycling at the moment but it doesnt cut it. Also, whats are the sizings like?

Thanks for any info :)

Yea, im guessing the shorts are kinda important...(not only for comfort, but also to stop myself getting arrested)

As for sizing, i usually take a large in normal shorts, should i stick to the same size for cycling ones? Any cheap-ish brands i should look for?

I did want specialised kit to match my bike/shoes/gloves etc but the premium you pay for team branded is not so great

I would suggest forgetting the matching kit for know and go for comfort and value. IMO Gore or Shutt bib shorts are very good quality at a good price. As for sizing, you can contact Shutt I believe and give them your 'vitals' and get the right size.

While this might sound a little daft (ive always worn no cycling stuff when riding mtbs etc) do you just ride in bib shorts with a jersey over the top?

You can wear a base layer then the bib shorts over the top. However, most people just wear bib shorts with a jersey on top. As for cheapish brands, I like Wiggle's DHB range and Altura. Decathlon do very low priced jerseys and shorts, some buy Lidl and Aldi cycling kit when it's available.

You'll find a size large ain't really that large. I.e.38-40" chest, 32" waist. Some of the European brands can be even smaller.

Ordered a pair of http://www.evanscycles.com/products/scott/rc-pro-bib-shorts-ec027535 to start with (black/red).

Im gonna try some jerseys on in a shop, i do alot of lifting at work so my arms/shoulders are larger than the rest of me (makes buying cloths a nightmare).

Thanks again for the info :)

+1 for Altura - good, no-nonsense well made kit.

I have several pairs of Lusso waist shorts which I like, made in UK and often quite cheap on ebay. If you're riding daily I'd recommend having 2 or 3 pairs to use while the others are being washed. I have always used waist shorts, have recently picked up some Shutt bibs to try after reading favourable reviews and comments.

Jerseys - heck, there is too much choice! If you don't want team replica (a mate has surprisingly good quality Chinese fake HTC kit), there's retro/interesting at Prendas or unbranded e.g. Altura, Endura, DHB etc etc. Parker International sell a good range of clothing from different specialist brands, as do Wiggle and most of the big online retailers.
Aspire not to have more, but to be more.

Have a look at Prendas (link below). They have some great prices on team kit and often have good prices on combined team jerseys and bib shorts combo. I got the Team High Road kit and it's very comfortable and good quality, and a absolute bargain for £40!!!!!

Altura, Endura if it's in the sale and DHB from wiggle.co.uk

Just buy whatever is in the sale, if you can.

Don't skimp on padded bib shorts / tights - expect to pay £70 minimum. Make sure you get ones with a bib.
