After trying a few specializeds out today and cannondales. Im upping my Second hand budget to around £650. Surely I should get something really nice within that range?

Which models should I be hunting down on ebay for within that range? I got my eye out for a binachi as Well I love the look of them.

i got a boardman pro carbon for that, excellent bike, not much difference in feel between it and a specialized roubaix i tested for £2000. obviously the specialized was nicer to ride in terms of comfort but i can easily get up to good speeds on the boardman and i don't come home aching after a ride

I had a 2009 allez elite as a 2nd bike and loved it. they really downgraded the spec in 2010 & 11. you get mostly 105 components and a carbon rear end. i picked mine up on ebay for £550 and sold it 6 months later for £650.

the added bonus is a lot of people picked them up on the cycle to work scheme so they have been stuck in garages with not a lot of riding.

one went on ebay recently for £550

There were a couple of nice 105/ultegra-equipped BMC Streetfires and a CAAD9 for around that price on here recently. Look for someone who knows their stuff and can give full and accurate descriptions in their adverts - more likely to have taken better care of their bike.

I looked on gumtree earlier there was a "new" specialized roubaix comp (rrp £1999!) for £650, although the ad has now gone, I suspect the bike still had the security tag from the shop attached though!

Stokepa31, I recentlu got a 2009 Allez Elite for £430 from gumtree, as you say the spec was massively reduced in 2010, the comp for £1299 is now the equivilant.

I bought a mint 2006 Spesh Tarmac Comp 18 months ago for £670 on ebay.

Personally I'd be looking for something that is mint, the right size, and less than half of its RRP.

Decided yesterday that I will have to sell my Raleigh Aventi u6 Pro if you're interested??

Love it but I want something a little more upright, as I'm doing a London to Paris in September. I know some bike snobs'll slate it as it's a raleigh. But great bike with good kit on it. On the very slim chance you're interested pm me.

Only if they're stupid. As far as I can gather-new generation Raleigh are good frames- the same components hung on it as everyone else.

The fact that they aren't fashionable means they're cheap and good value I think
