Seat post clamp sizes?

Can anyone tell me how to measure my seat post to get a clamp size?

I have a seat post that fits - the post is 31.6mm.

I'm guessing that a 31.8 mm clamp would be too small cos the tube metal must be more than 1mm thick (or am i wrong).

I'm asking this as i've ordered seat clamps before and always seem to pay out for one that doesn't fit, no matter how hard I measure!!

Any advice would be excellent.

    Thanks Nick

Ok i checked using the guide on FAQ

    I came up with 34.08 (circumference was 107mm) - so i guess 34.9mm

    The bike is a Trek 3700 2007 (I think).
