I'm communting to work and clocking up 90 - 100 miles per week. Currently I using an old raleigh mountain bike with slicks and a rack. My other bikes are a hardtail mountain bike and a Secteur which I've just bought. The Secteur is significantly faster over the 11.6 mile commute (all roads). BUT i don't want to ruin my roadbike by using it to commute all the time and certainly don't want to fit a rack. The old mountain bike is heavy and feels slow.
Therefore i'm considering buying another cheap roadbike, don't want to spend a lot of money and want something that can be used in all weathers and will take a rack. The TDF at Halfords looks a good bet but waiting for the price to come down further, last year it got to about £220. I'd then take the bits off the old mountain bike and sell it, fitting the rack lights etc to the TDF.
Alternatively I continue to use the raleigh, save for a new roadbike (probably a ribble) and then upgrade the secteur to commuting duty ??
Looks like I will get another road bike via C2W next year but don't want to miss the summer and the extra speed of a road bike.
Is the TDF a good buy??
