Cassette/Freehub Wobble

I've a Rockhopper pro c.2009 on spesh own rear hubs and original cassette.
While doing some general maintenance I noticed what is best described as a Wobble on the cassette/freehub of around 1mm of movement.
There is no discernable buckling of the wheel
Q1 Is this anything to be concerned about yet and can I let it go for some time?
Q2 Is this an issue with the spindle or freehub or bearings?
Cheers Richie

Worn bearings? Simple enough to change if you have the tools. I clean and repack my wheel bearings regularly through the winter months.0

I find there is always a slight movement, but I would describe it as a wobble.
have you actually taken it off, if so did you miss that there may have been a spacer between cogs0 -

sounds quite normal."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Is it by any chance a SRAM cassette?
You can have the same problem when you disassemble the SRAM cassettes to clean the sprockets, and do the through sprocket screw up too tightly on reassembly."Coming through..."0 -

Um you can feel and see oscillation of the cassette as the wheel is spinning freely. I would have thought that this was something out of kilt :?I'm going to blow the bank on a new build ( within reason ) NOW DONE!!

nope it is very common and normal. Less so on expensive hubs."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
