Nuke Proof Headset Compatibility

I´ve been looking at this headset:

From what I read it seems like it will fit a 44mm Head Tube (that takes a standard 1,1/8 Steerer) but will let you run a 1.5 Fork since the bearings are external, not inside the headtube. Am I wrong?
This would save me selling my 1.5 Lyric just to buy a 1,1/8 one to fit my new frame.
I emailed Nuke Proof so if they reply I´ll post it here.

yes and no.
the problem is the insert depth.
there is no requirement in the standard for them to be-able to manage 20mm insert depth.
the standard now says 15mm min but most take less. 10mm being normal.
but you may be lucky."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I was looking at that too and the headtube in my frame is carbon and as far as I can make out its the same width and texture all the way down. I´d assume this really only aplies to aluminium headtubes since they´d have to be reamed during production.
Nuke Proof also make a 14.8mm insert version.
I also came across another forum where a guy with the same NukeProof headset, cut the inserts to fit his headtube, an Orange Five. It worked fine.0 -
as long as the cut left a smooth chamfered edge it is fine."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
