Hey, I did my first solo 12 hour endurance race 3 weeks ago and loved it, I'm now hunting down more for this summer.

Are there any you've ridden previously that you would recommend?

Which are worth a drive to, me being from the Scottish Borders currently?

Any tips, hints, coaching and websites I should be keeping an eye on or doing?

Loved to hear all about the races : )

  • Near you I think, the Chain Reaction Cycles marathon series at Selkirk. Usually in July I think and the course is usually around 100km:

Also got a 10 hr event at Kirroughtree:

    Hope these answer your q's.

The NoFuss 10 hour events are fantastic, great atmosphere and above all great courses. Ive driven 6+ hours (each way) for 10 under the ben in the last 2 years, well worth the drive.

The CRC Selkirk Marathon is also an excellent course, not quite 10 hours though but I suppose that depends how fast you ride.

Bit shorter but the Glentress 7 is shaping up to be a good event... Don't be fooled by the name, lots of people think it's just on the GT trails but it's got tons of new stuff cut just for the event (which will be closed again straight after) so it's a whole other ballgame.

The No Fuss Tens are the obvious one, can't say as I enjoyed 10 Under the Ben much but that's just me being miserable and not an XC racer ;) People who like that sort of thing highl recommend them, Kirroughtree especially.

Is there a Kielder 100 this year?

Bristol bike fest is a fun event, but prob not worth the drive abut CRC's ELBNO night marathons are a bit of a different experience, you can hire lamps from the too, then do the one of the marathons the follow day too.

Brecon Beast is just a big slog, with too much road involved, would give that one a miss.
I'm very responsible, whenever anything bad happens they always say I am responsible.....
  • Thanks guys that's great and useful stuff. I think I might try the local ish ones this year and then get further afield to I think the CRC at Selikirk could be a gooden and I've been encouraged to do the Kielder 100, which I helped out at last year, defo a good laugh, but hard for the riders! Basically I'm gonna get out and ride.
