Any iritis sufferers on here?
How long does a bout usually last?
What do you do / use to combat it?
Well in to my Spring training, an then BAM! Partially blind overnight!
Any advice appreciated,
Cheers

Iritis is very aggressive and needs prompt treatment with steroid and cyclopegic eye drops. Needs to be treated by an ophthalmologist. Usually responds fairly quickly to the steroids as long as you get treated early.
  • My wife gets a bout of this condition every 2-3 weeks, sometimes more frequently, it usually responds to steroid eye drops within a day or so. It doesn't seem to stop her doing anything and she just gets on with life. I struggle to know what to say, especially on the occasions when she needs an injection into her eyeball.

Don’t mess with iritis. Go and get the proper treatment – there is nothing available over the counter. If you leave it, you could end up permanently damaging your eyes/sight.

I get bouts every 12-24 months and have been for about 15 years. Treatment usually lasts about a month and the pain goes in a few days once you start on the steroid drops. You'll have a dilated pupil in your effected eye for the duration of the treatment.

You’ll still be able to ride/train – I’ve raced with it.

My last episode in Oct was bad enough to warrant steroid injections in the eye. And so was the 1st one I ever had – 10 days of injections but that was because I ignored it.
    I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.
