Specialized hub loosening

The rear hub on my SX Trail keeps loosening after I tightened and refit it. I checked the bearing and they're due for a change which makes me think whether it's worth upgrading to hope or ck or dt Swiss, what I want to know is why the hub gets loose, if it's down to the bearing or something more. What's people's experience with specialized stock hubs?

Its a thru axle hub(joytech manufacture I believe for specialized) either 10 or 12mm. The cone on the cassette side unscrews, or could be the other side, which causes the wheel to move or wobble side to side slightly.

That's what I would do but it doesn't have one, just a nut on each end of hollow axle.. I thought it'd be okay because I've seen hope hubs that don't have locknuts.
I'll try and dissemble it and take pics to post.
