Worth getting a bike fit

Is it worth getting a proper bike fit for my new bike ?

I'm going to be using a secteur elite to commute to work over the summer. Whilst I've managed to get it fairly comfortable, the saddle is not quite right and i think that's effecting my pedelling and reach to the hoods. Possibly the saddle is still too low or too far forwards.

Specialized bike fit is £120 for 3-4 hours. Is this worth doing ?

Would prefer to get fitted locally (I'm near Harrow)

Thanks

in a word, yes it is worth getting the fit. However, I think you should be able to find it a bit cheaper than what spesh are offering. I know that Epic offer a fit for about £70 http://www.epic-cycles.co.uk/FAQ.html#Fitting but I'm not sure how far away from them you are.

..I would say yes...got fitted 2 weeks ago and the last 300 miles have been the most comfortable by far. I was getting serious back ache before, not a twinge now...

It's definitely worth paying for a proper bike fit. Some of the best money you can spend on cycling IMO.

I agree that the Spesh fitting is quite pricy though.

will shops fit you to a bike that isnt the correct size? i have developed a preference over the years to riding bikes that are too small for me (due to an odd posture developed through drumming) so i don't know whether the usual things they'd do to set up would work

I've booked a fitting on the 2nd June with Specialized.

Whilst the fit on my bike is ok, i think it will be worth getting it spot on. Its a lot on money but hopefully will be worth it.

At least the store is local so goes to help building the relationship. Plus they can set up next years bike with the right measurement

I'm trying to book a BG fit at sigma at the minute as my knee after a long ride is fcked, I really hope it sorts it.

I wasn't sure but got talked in to it. Thought I was pretty well set up but just about everything changed at least slightly. Knee pain has just about gone now and everything else feels in much less pain after a day on the bike. That's after changing to a more racy bike too.

I have got a fitting tomorrow with bike lab in Richmond London, it's costing 70£ and I talked to one of the chaps on the phone who was really helpful and explained everything,

I will update the thread with how I get on, what my measurements are and which bike they recommend, it may help others out.

In some cases if you buy a bike thru them then the fitting is free and they make a margin off the bike. In my case as I'm very tall they said that I won't fit on bikes they usually advocate but will help me find one from a brand which I buy myself and take to them to set up.

    I'm looking forward to it.

    Hi m8,

I just had a bike fitting ay Bike Lab in Richmond, London. Was a really worthwhile experience. They sat me down, we talked about my riding history, my goals, style of riding, budget etc.

Then they measured me all over, and gave me print outs of frames with measurements for different riding styles, i am in the sportive confortable/sporty section.

They then went through their recommended rands but couldnt find anything that fitted, im 6foot7 and 17.5 stone. I like that they didnt try to push a bike on me i wouldnt fit or couldnt afford.

You could tell the staff were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

In the end they looked at loads of brands and i suggested a few. I finally settled on Rose Carbon RS 4400, ts around 1800 quid. It is being shipped to the shop who will fit it to my specs. All that help for 75 quid - a bargain.

I would deffinately reccomend a fitting
