    still havent got to the bottom of this... have bought cane creek 1.5" 36x45 hd1404k sealed bearing for the lower... this doesnt appear to fit... it appears that the early 2010 fuel ex8 had ad different bearing...does any one exactly what i need...??

    all help welcomed.

    I would have thought it'd been a standard tapered zero stack jobby, given how rapidly the popularity of tapered headsets has shot up there shouldn't be any shortage of options.

    Measure the top and bottom of the headtube and see if it matches what the box of the CC one says.

    more info on the bearing? or headset lower you bought? the info provided is a bit limited.

    ok from the CC webby the angles are right but the thickness?

    and how is it not fitting?

    angles do seem correct.. the height of the lower bearing is too low on the cane creek replacement... i.e. the outer chamfer isnt high enough when placed next to the old dead one.

    i'd say the old one is 8mm in height and the CC is 6.5mm in height

    the FSA stack height is only 2.9mm while the CC is 4mm

    two options. get the CC crown race. (may have issues with the FSA cup) or buy the correct FSA bearing MR127 {073E-RS}

    or a complete new lower cup/bearings and crown race.

    I've got the 2011 Ex8 with the same problem. Specifically the bottom headset bearing does not last. Amazingly enough, there seems to be little to no info around on what to replace it with. (Local Trek dealer wanted me to buy the whole headset)

    After some searching on the FSA site I found something that looked like a similar headset (Orbit-15-ZS NO-57) One can download the specs with all the dimensions and part numbers. It looks fine.(with just a ruler to measure the old one) I did not look at the top bearing, and have no idea about durability, but the bottom one looks the same, fits and works.

    http://www.fullspeedahead.com/products/ ... ZS---NO-57

    The store I bought it from described the bearing as such:
    (160-6740) FSA MR110 (073-RS) 1.5" ACB 36 * 45 Bearing

    Cost £14 incl pp 2012.

    Hope this helps.
