Which is the best bike mag?

I've bought a couple of issues of Cycling Weekly and it seems ok, but I'd like more bike reviews etc and less info about Jackie , 40, from Somerset and how she took 9 hours to do the local 40 mile sportive, if you know what I mean...
So what's the one to get?

I tried cycling weekly when i first started out cycling but after about 3 months i noticed they were simply regurgitating the same topics each week. Now I'm a Procycling man and sometimes dabble in cycle sport. Out of these two I'd say Procycling is the best.0

I used to buy CW regularly up to about 5 years years ago, i still read it and some other mags nearly every week but just flick through to the interesting stuff if any now in WH Smiths for half an hour, with some mags costing 4 to 5 quid now i must have saved meself hundreds over the years.0

Anyone tried Peloton magazine? It looks good on-line and I'm tempted to buy a printed copy.0

You tell 'em Jackie!0 -
If you're looking for more bike review type stuff then you'd be better off avoiding ProCycling and Cycle Sport. ProCycling does 1 review per month and it's always a pro's bike (in keeping with the magazine i suppose) so is way in excess of what most people want to spend. Cycle Sport don't do any reviews as such, I think you would be better off with Cycling Plus and periodically Cycling Weekly do a "best bike for £1k type feature" on a number of bikes. ProCycling and Cycle Sport are more focused toward the races and rider interviews and are both very good in their own right.0

I bought a copy a month/few months ago and whilst it wasn't bad and there were a few decent articles, the Americanisms really started to annoy me. Sometimes it's the words, sometimes it's the sentence formation. It's pedantic but i found it annoying when trying to read.
There was also a few seriously weak articles, whereas i personally find ProCycling consistently strong throughout.0 -
Another vote for Cycling Plus, but it's expensive (as is everything these days) at (i think) £4.50.
I like cycling weekly, but agree there's a lot of stuff I skip through, and to be honest, at £2.75 per issue (£2.75!!!!!!!!! for a weekly!!!!!!) it's too expensive to justify. They only offer a 13% discount for subscription too, so that's a no-no, which is a shame as it's nice to flick.
I read the monthlies in about 1-2 hours, so at least the weeklies give you a little more0 -
Procycling is a great buy and read. The photography in it is also spectactular.
I'm lucky in that I get procycling handed down to me by a neighbour and a tri mag by my Dad.
What annoys me about CP etc is their inability to give any product a poor review or rating. Even if the say its rubbish in the review, it comes out with a good rating.
There is only so much you can write about though if you are not into the race scene, so it is always going to be a bit samey.0 -

Rouler for me too. I dont consider it expensive at £9, because it's bi monthly, so no more expensive than Pro Cycling etc. No bike reviews, but a fantastic read and about the only magazine (not really a mag though, more of a book!) that I read cover to cover. However, it is full of ads these days (like the rest of them), whereas the earlier issues weren't.0

I like The Ride, although it is more of a quarterly journal than a magazine.0

Well, given that this website is run by the folks who write Cycling Plus it would be rude not to give them the "thumb's up", particularly since the mag has been overhauled lately with some nice articles by chaps like Rob Penn and James Cracknell (for example) and some good advice and kit reviews. Nice to see the "what bike" section has been dropped as that was 20 pages of wasted effort month after month. I also like the freebies too (I regularly use the two buffs handed out and the black socks this month were perfect as I was thinking of buying some). I know there is an argument that the price of the freebies is included in the cover price but they are welcome nonetheless.
When I subscribed I also got an excellent hat (which was perfect in the winter) and a great Altura shower jacket, which is in my back pocket for most long rides.
I have to admit to also buying the CW a couple of times a month for more up to date stuff and a laugh with Dr Hutch.0 -
ProCycling for features, Cycling Plus for reviews, I also subscribe to Cycling Weekly for a combination of the two (and reasonably current news) but yeah it's pricey for a weekly mag.0
