Being a relative newbie to cycling I am largely ignorant on bike maintenance and wouldn't mind learning a bit more (enough to get by should I have a mechanical when out on the bike).

I wouldn't mind a decent bike maintenance book if there is such a thing - I know there are some excellent websites about such as SheldonBrown, but wouldnt mind having the comfort of a book to look at and use as a base for knowledge.

I will still use my bike shop (Stirling Cycle Repairs) for anything major but would like to increase my knowledge of my bike and how to maintain it.
Me struggling up Mont Ventoux for the first time! Done it 3 times since (each way up) without stopping. This seems like a lifetime ago! http://img208.imageshack.us/i/snapshot2 ... 45552.tif/

The park tools, big blue book is well recommended.

But you can't beat you tube for maintenance guidance.

I would not recommend a book; check out the Park Tools website.

Haynes did a book a few years ago. I picked one up for a couple of quid. It is basic, but gives you a few ideas before you leap in. Before I get howls of derisive laughter, it shows at least what tools you might need and how complex a job is (I assume from your post you are a beginner to wielding a spanner). Then you make your mind up if you fancy tackling it. Most bike stuff is easier than most make out anyway. Also, if you ask on here most will be happy to offer an opinion. Some may even post a link...

Park Tool's Big Blue Book is a good guide. As said YouTube is also worth looking at.
