I Was poorly prepared and weather was rotten, windy with gusts up to 25 mph - but I got there!
Actually did 56 miles due to my poor navigation skills and felt the wind was against me or across me about 80% of the time
Knackered, but feeling great! it's bleedin addictive this cycling lark!

But actually, most cyclists would never admit that the wind was with them as much as 20% of the time.0 -

Not for a while! Would like to get better on hills coz I really suck, particulalry on long gradual climbs - im better when I can see the end, even if it is steep!
Only 2246ft of ascent on todays run, thankfully!0 -
yep, another hearty well done. Did my own first 50 a couple of weeks ago and yes, it is very addictive. I guarantee you'll want to go further and/or faster and never be 100% happy with your achievements. Its like trying to find that crock of gold at the end of a rainbow, but its great fun0

Nice one! Use km for your next 100!0

Well done. I too am becoming an adict.
I did my first 50 only a few weeks ago and have my first century planned for June 4th. I signed up for Fatty's 100 Miles of Nowhere (www.fatcyclist.com). I have been slowly adding miles on every week. I am going for between 80 and 90 tomorrow. I am happy to be in PHX, AZ where there are few hills to worry about.
Keep it up.0 -

Good job you don't live round here, or you could move that decimal point to something like 224.6ft of ascent on a 50 mile run  So so lucky people with hills And yes I think that is roughly what my first 50 miler a few weeks ago was ascent wise, maybe upto 230ft :0 -

Ah, the omnipresent headwinds. Welcome to cycling, well done, as above posts say this is scarily addictive and you will soon be looking for further challenges. LEJOG? Keep peddling.Ecrasez l’infame0

Two of us completed our first 50 miler today also. Planned a route with a coffee stop after 30 miles and as I pulled onto the driveway at the end the computer read 50.10 miles, so quite happy with my route planning skills.
Managed it in 2 hours 56 mins riding time (plus half hour coffee stop) which gave an aveage of 17mph.
Route was pretty flat, just a few minor rolling hills before the coffee stop which really hurt, but we were going for it pretty much all the way and as it was a circular route we had pretty much half and half head and tail winds. No idea if that is a decent pace or not but it certainly hurt as though it was!0 -

Well done and good average mph. I did my 56 in about 3hrs 30 (plus a 20 min rest/food stop) but think my last few miles were done at about 10 mph!
Would just like some decent weather to get out again, horrible here today heavy rain and gusty wind - forecast bit better for early tomorrow so looks like a 5.30 rise!0 -
Well Done
The first 50 is a real mile stone. Addiction or Insanity sets in and you want more.. more and More
If youre interested..... Insanity set in addiction too me
For me anyway.
I went on sportive for my first 50 miler and was going great guns till another beginner cyclist decided to pull out in front of me. He cycled across the road without looking to get to an unofficial feed station.
I rebounded off him at about 25mph and fell to my right still clipped in and skidding on my side. People said it was quite spectacular (no YOUTUBE then)
I was knocked out, my helmet was cracked. Jersey ripped and shoulder shredded. Shorts and saddle scarred and road rash on my right leg.
Everyone stopped to help me (cyclists are a great bunch) When I came too. I took a five or ten minute break with my mates and enjoyed a free drink and a lot of apologies from the muppet who caused it all.
Then someone checked my bike over for me. (cyclists are a great bunch.. did I tell you than?) They tweaked my gears deraileur and off I went.
Insanity and Addiction
Well done once again.
Keep cycling and keep uprightChris0
