A brief intro to my Spesh restoration project (about 90% complete).
Background is that about a year ago I was working for a large junk removal company in London when this old Specialized Rockhopper came into the depot in a very abused and sorry state from a house clearance job.
Basically the bearings were gone in the rear wheel, both front and back wheels were badly out of true, the gear hanger was bent, the rear mech snapped in half, front mech twisted about 50 degrees out of line, forks were seized pretty much rigid. That said, the frame was straight so for a small fee I bought it off the company I worked for (nothing was free there)
So replaced everything, Cassette, chain, front and rear mechs, all consumables, stripped and rebuilt the forks (and gave the lower legs a re-spray while they were off as the paint was falling off in clumps). Not easy when doing it on the absolute cheap as I have no income being a full time parent for my little girl, but done it nonetheless.
Rehomed both myself, my family and said Rockhopper to just south of Wrexham and basically looks like this now (excuse the dirt, had just been for a spin round Llandegla, and was washed shortly after)
Try and get up to Llandegla twice a week, so if you see me on the Spesh (you can't miss the weird orange Dukes on the front) say hello.
