VENTURA Protour - Anyone got one?

'Morning all.

My son has expressed an interest in trying out road cycling, and pointed out an ad in Cycling Plus from JE James for a Sora-equipped Ventura Protour bike, reduced from £500 to £309.

My Google-fu is obviously weak today as I can't find any info on them anywhere.

Anyone heard of these? Got one? Opinions?

Don't want him spending £300 on this if it's a piece of cr@p - might be better to spend a little more and get a decent 2nd hand "known" bike......

    Yeah, saw that myself but there don't seem to be any reviews anywhere.

    What interested me was the Sora groupset. It's one up from the 2300 on the Carrera TDF Special Halfrauds are selling just now, and which got a good review in C+'s "bikes under £500" article recently. Doesn't mean the frame/forks are any good. And he's utterly spoiled by riding my CAAD.... :wink:

    I guess at that amount of cash you're not getting top quality kit, but as a starter bike.....

    You're right about the lack of reviews.

    Perhaps go for something tried and tested and second hand?

    Yes it was, but it had 2300 not Sora.
