Hi,

Does anyone know how to "Decode" the number on the side of a Monarch rear suspension can? (Assuming it's not just a serial number that is).

I've recently had to have a Monarch 3.1 replaced buy Halfords on a Boardman Team FS, and they've had to replace it with an RT3. I want to check they've matched the stroke lengt, etc, properly.

Also, does anyone know what the large red M and blue L printed on the side of the can stad for?

Hal

    pics of the letters and what is the code?

    i would say the letters are to show the tune of the damping.

    The letters on the original Monarch 3.1 were:
    22T00024142
    On the replacement Monarch RT3:
    08T10074059

    What I want to check is that the replacement won't mess up / damage the frame geometry. That stroke length, etc, is correct for that bike. I'll post pics of the two letters when I get home.

    Cheers GTD, but I don't see how I match my shock to that chart. I've trawled the interwebs and there are lots of posts suggesting Monarch's have an A to D tune sticker on the bottom of them, but I don't see anything on mine but that code and the ML sticker.

    Have they changed the markings for this year?

    ML doesn't make much sense as RS have changed to just 3 tunes on the 2011 monarchs

    Low, Mid and High tune and High Volume or normal air can.

    Justy had a response from the SRAM tech centre about the ML markings.

    M=Medium Tune
    L=Low compression.

    Hal,

    Did you get to the bottom of this?
    I too would be very interested in knowing how to ID Monarch shocks. It looks like it has to be done via the serial number as there's no other numbers on them.

    Riding this Boardman Team FS 2010. Also trying my first blog.

    It's supposed to be trade only, but they responded anyway, and worked out what shock it was from the measurements, and confirmed it was OK.
