afan &cymcarn, doable in a weekend?
hey folks.. thinking of getting down to wales for a weekends riding and was thinking of doing the two above centres.. and nant-y-arian.. driving down from scotland on the friday, heading out to do one of them on the sat then another one ( or 2) on the sunday, then back up the road on the monday.. is this possible as im not sure of distances between centres?

Well, yes, distance-wise it's certainly possible but whether you would FEEL like riding Cwmcarn after Afan I don't know! There are quite a few trails at Afan and you could easily lose a day (or two) there
Coed-y-Brenin (I have no idea if that's spelt right  ) is also good, just above Nant-yr-Arian I think.....Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the number of moments that take your breath away....
Riding a gorgeous ano orange Turner Burner!

cwmcarn is bout 1hour drive down M4 from afan easy doable in a day depends wot trail you do at afan tho' ie w2 is worth doing if comming from scotland but is quite long, but cwmcarn my local has only one trail which is ridable in 1-2hours depending on fitness and pace but is worth an hours drivecube ams 150 race 20110

as above about the distances between and depending how fit you are. if you do w2 at afan that would be a good 3-4 hours at least and gives you the best of afan IMO:

as said above cwmcarn is only 1 xc trail and a dh track (lots of natural riding but you'd have to know where to look. you'll do the twrch (xc) trail in 2 hrs easily - i do it in 1 hr 30 mins and i'm a lard ass

nant yr arian is around about 2 hrs from cwmcarn, so if you started early on the sunday you could do both possibly? i've never been there so i'm not sure what to reccommend:

It's a fair way from Cwmcarn to Nant-Y-Arian though and not on particularly good roads, but it's probably doable.http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/ ... lurLT2.jpg

but he's going back north to scotlandcube ams 150 race 20110

Yeah, but it's arse about face to go from scotland to afan to cwmcarn then back west to nya! Nipping between afan and cwmcarn is easy, but then you're going back on yourself to go to nya. Personally i'd rather do a sweep like cwm to afan to nya or the other way round, see? :-)http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/ ... lurLT2.jpg

the raods from afan to nant yr arian are no better than from cwmcarn really and as he's going north anyway it won't make any difference0

were probably going to be based at bryn bettws lodge, so going to be leaving from there both days.. would there be a better way to do it? :?0

there's a campsite at cwmcarn and a few b&b's dotted around, bryn bettws to cwmcarn and then onto nany yr arian would be a lot of driving in 1 day IMO.0 -
cool, will rethink the accomodation probably.. prob go for a b&b near afan then another one nearer cwmcarn and nany yr arian.. :?0

the fan lodge hotel is supposed to be good:

not sure about b&b's there.
there's a few b&b's in cross keys and abercarn if you do a google search for: 'b&bs in cwmcarn', they're both only a few minutes drive to cwmcarn. not sure if any of them are any good cos it's 10 mins from my house0 -
nice one, cheers.. afan lodge looks the biz!0

Dear god, I don't know why I bother Driving N/S through Wales is a chore, if you come down through Wales do nya, afan then cwmcarn, he gets to go back to Scotland on the motorway (or do it the other way round). That's my point - no messing with 35mph caravan following for 4 hours only to find out you've only got as far as Wrexham!
OMG, I've just realised that I don't even care... I'm going now!

but he could just drive down the motorway on the way down..but then i suppose it would be nicer to get home quicker..i see a case of 6 and 2 3's here
and i don't really care either cos i'm not driving it0 -
Daytrip to Brechfa is your man if you want Afan + an extra.
Bryn Bettws Lodge kills me. Just at the point on W2 I could do with a drinksnack they have a sign saying Cafe. Never bloody open.0
