I have heard that there are some excellent Trail Centres in Wales and wish to visit one one weekend this summer.

I currently have 6 months experience at Swinley and have tried the Surrey Hills twice.

Although I have ridden down hill 'Barry knows best' and all the trails at Swinley I would probably favour the likes of Labyrinth and Stickler at Swinley.

I currently live in Basingstoke so I guess Cwmcarn would be the nearest and would plan to take by 10 year old son with me. We are both comfortable with the routes at Swinley and Surrey Hills ( Joghurt Pots).

Would Cwmcarn be a challenge for us or are there better options in wales?

Many Thanks

  • Having ridden Swinley (I was in Twickenham at uni) Cwmcarn probably requires a slightly higher level of skill, but if you're both fairly competent riders there is no reason why you wouldn't enjoy Cwmcarn.

There are loads of us that ride Cwmcarn on a regular basis... load of friendly lads of all abilities.. may be worth popping a question or two in here

    Thank you for the reply.

The south Wales thread certainly gives me an idea of the ability needed.

The nice thing about Cwmcarn is that you ditch entire sections of it if you want. The horrifying rooty, technical climb to the top can be significantly eased by cheating a bit and taking the road to the top and just enjoying the final few downhill/cross country sections. From there on it's fine as long as you ride within your ability.
