Extending a steerer?

I'm looking at the possibility of building an Orange 5 from scratch but my current setup (2004 Enduro has a 110mm headtube + 10mm spacers)

The Orange is 130mm at least; is it viable to weld a 1 1/8" cut off to extend my current TALAS instead of buying a new fork?

Not if you want to live.
I have heard of people grafting in an extra piece with a rod supporting the two pieces but wouldn't try it personally.

Opinion is one thing but oil rigs, bridges and ships are welded together; I'm sure a weld can support 14St!

Anyone got first hand experience of such an idea i.e a welder and or an injured/non injured rider?

Can I fit a new steerer tube to my Forx as my new frame has a longer head tube?

A.Unfortunately it's not possible to fit a new steerer tube into a Fox Forx crown. If a longer steerer tube is required then a new crown/steerer/stanchion assembly will need to be fitted to the fork. For current prices please contact us

Hmm ok but that details a replacement steerer; granted it's an option but I would like to hear from a welder/rider regards the strength of adding an extension

    Thanks anyway buddy

and yes. no I would not trust it on an MTB as you have a heat treated alloy steerer.

    Alloy steerer's are heat treated.

As long as you used another steerer as the extension piece, it will be as strong as the original.

Sadly the tiny section either side of the weld required to join the 2 parts would be extremely vulnerable to failure.

If you try it, be sure to use a full face helmet and a handelbar mounted video camera.
