I have a problem. The bolt on the top of the headset that clamps forks and stem is just going around. It will not tighten or undo. How do i get it out? Has the thread stripped possibly?

it does not clamp the forks and stem it just preloads the bearings.

sounds like you need to undo the stem bolts and then apply some upward pressure on the stem while undoing the top cap bolt to see if it will catch and allow you to remove it.

Tried that. No luck. I think the star nut may be knackered. Trip to the lbs me thinks.

drill the head off the headset bolt, that will release top cap then you can see why the headset bolt is just turning in star nut, then just a csae of removing star nut
