Balblair, Whats it like

As the title anyone been to balblair near Bonar Bridge? Is it any good and how difficult is it?

Was there for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Enjoyed it and will go back to try and get better.

Black route has a lot of exposed bedrock sections, quite techy and slow. Might just be me that's slow though !

Up round the top at the mast above Invershin the section called Candy Mountain was pretty mental, too hard for me. Luckily there's a choice of routes here so I backtracked and went the easier way round.

The downhill sections at Loopy Loo and Slab Happy are fast and excellent fun.

Oh - and the views are great too.

I was up on holiday last march,and travelled up to balblair from our base at nairn....rode the full 7 mile of the black route,and had a grin from ear to ear.

If id had more time id of gone round again.....on the bedrock there are arrows showing you the best line to take to make it more flowing,with it being my first time there,i was slow as not use to the trail,took me a hour and half to get round,that includes stopping to take pics as well.......

There was only one part i couldnt ride and that was a climb up some huge rock slabs,think its just after the 2nd emergency exit.....i wasnt very fit after the winter break tho.

Dont know how much the forest com site is upto date,but at mo it says that the black is closed after rock hard and to follow diversions upto candy mountain,so you would miss the climb i couldnt make up

Sounds good, Had to abort the trip today and do a local ride but will definitely make the trip sometime soon.
